Getting Started with Enkrypted Chat

⚠️ WARNING: Enkrypted Chat is experimental, unaudited, and unstable. Expect breaking changes and an evolving setup flow. For testing and evaluation only; not for sensitive communications or production use.

One app for encrypted messaging, files, and documents — no account required.

1. Open the app

  1. Use a modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Edge).
  2. Allow camera and microphone if prompted (needed for WebRTC and video calls).

2. Connect with someone

Both people need the app open.

  1. Click Create new chat.

  1. Exchange connection links, QR codes, or peer IDs.

  1. When connected, open the chat from your list.

3. Send a message

  1. Type a message (attachments supported).
  2. Click Send.

Messages are end-to-end encrypted over WebRTC.

4. Files and documents

  • Default storage (OPFS): Files stay in private browser storage — no folder picker, persists across sessions, not visible in your OS file manager.

  • Mount a folder (optional): Use the File System Access API to store files on disk. Create an empty folder first, then grant access when prompted.

  • Browse and manage: Open Files in the app — works like a normal file manager.
